Personal Prose Post

I made it through the first day of the — agh! — diet. Actually without too much trouble, after I had an apple. Something about fruit that makes life worth living. I didn’t make it through South Beach and Atkins because they didn’t allow fruit. I checked this out before I began this new eating plan, and I think I can handle it. Really, what harm is a little Granny Smith apple, in the long run? None, especially if it keeps you from eating chocolate, which it did me.

I wonder how the other 140 people in the class are handling this. The second class is on Sunday, and I’ll find out. There’s actually more to the class than following an eating plan. This is a mind-body-spirit class. The diet is the eating part. The mind part involves journaling, which I decided to do on my blog instead of in my journal. The spirit part is moving regularly. I committed to doing some form of movement every day for 20 minutes. So far, so good.

The second day hasn’t been quite as hard as the first, so far.

If you think staying on an eating plan is a challenge, how about living with someone who is on a new diet???!!! Let me tell you that with the right partner, it is far easier than doing it oneself. Especially if your spouse goes out and buys the food and cooks the first 2 days worth, even packs you your approved lunch in little plastic containers and kisses you goodbye as you leave for work where you will be surrounded by candy, cookies and other goodies left over from Christmas gifts to the office.

Thanks to my wife, I’ve also been “mostly” on the plan for 1 2/3 days. Breakfast with the guys after Bible Class turned out fine. With 9 of us at the table, I was shy about asking for steamed veggies and poached eggs. So I ordered the usual veggie omlette. But, eggs weren’t supposed to be fried, so I chased down the waitress and asked if she could team me some veggies and add poached eggs. Sure, she smiled. When it was served, at least 3 pals asked how I managed to get that? They will be ordering it next week.

Couldn’t resist a half cup of real coffee this afternoon, but that diet Dr. Pepper that has been awaiting its lid to be flipped for the past hour is not ice cold anymoe and maybe I can resist… ffffzzzzz Oh well, no sugar anyway.
